Houston, Texas

|

17 October 2023

Through our Cancer Stage Shifting Initiative (CSSI), the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF) is having its upcoming , scheduled to take place in Houston, Texas, on November 19th. This event will be hosted at Brentwood Baptist Church immediately following their morning service. We anticipate a turnout of 1,000 to 1,500 attendees who will actively participate in this health fair.

We are actively reaching out to 20-25 patient advocacy organizations, health systems, and more, inviting them to partner with us in promoting and participating in this crucial screening event. Our primary objective is to offer attendees access to a range of essential services, including breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer screenings, as well as comprehensive risk assessments.

In addition to cancer screenings, we are working to secure partnerships with health clinics that will provide valuable referrals, women’s health services, and vaccinations for COVID, Flu, and HPV, among other services. To streamline the attendee experience, each participant will receive a “health passport.” This passport will guide them through visiting each booth and, if eligible, receiving the necessary screening services. Furthermore, eligible attendees will have the opportunity to take home a Cologuard kit, ensuring continued screening opportunities.

Most importantly, all eligible attendees of the fair will be seamlessly connected to follow-up care, ensuring that the benefits of early detection are maximized.

Our overarching goal with this event is to provide Houston residents with a comprehensive array of services and resources aimed at reducing the burden of cancer within the community. We are aware of the low cancer screening rates in Houston, and this aligns perfectly with NMQF’s mission to bridge the cancer screening gap and introduce early detection technologies and services to communities like Houston. We are committed to making a significant impact on the health and well-being of residents in underserved communities through this event.
